Bowie’s Son Denies The Claim That His Father’s Ashes Were Scattered At Burning Man

Duncan Jones & David Bowie

Earlier today, it was reported by several sources that David Bowie’s ashes were scattered at the annual festival Burning Man, taking place  at Black Rock City in the Nevada desert. A source told E! News: ‘David’s godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it.’ They even reported that Iman, David’s wife, had given the permission for the ashes to be scattered there with a ceremony gathering 70 people at the Temple. Now I have never been to Burning Man but do they really have a temple? Of course, it was burnt soon after. so much for the CO2 emission, but the spoiled rich kids who attend the festival have no idea about these sort of things.

Someone even said: ‘We played [David’s] music the entire drive from our camp to the Temple and back. Most of us had the Bowie [lightning bolt] face paint on.’

I don’t know if they were all on acid when they imagine all this because the story has since been denied on Twitter by Duncan Jones, Bowie’s son from his first marriage with Angie Bowie:

‘That Burning Man thing? What people will do & say for attention never ceases to amaze me. Not true. Kind of a gross claim as well. *sigh*’

‘We all know if dad DID want his ashes scattered in front of strangers, it would be at the Skegness Butlins. ;)’ he added a bit later

So can we still believe any news anymore? This was reported by E!, the Dailymail, MSN entertainment, and basically, the internet being this giant snowball, the entire music blogosphere. Couldn’t someone ask the family before reporting about something so personal? The strangest thing is that nobody is naming this mysterious Bowie’s godchild, who is that person? The San Francisco Gate is even saying it was a goddaughter, adding that Bowie has no publicly-known goddaughters! But rumors are hard to kill, the story is still up on the Facebook page of the festival Burn.Life, and you can still read:

‘Reliable people confirm that some of his ashes were in the Temple this year. I’m possibly irrationally thrilled by this!

Update: I have even more confirmation, this time from someone who marched with the ashes to the Temple while some art cars played Bowie songs, on Wednesday. Much much of the placement team was with the procession. (Note: I’ve stripped some information out at the request of someone in a position to make that request, out of respect.)’

Big sigh indeed! These people should stop the psilocybin.
