Biding Our Time: Thursday, January 6th, 2022

The Storming Of The Capitol: If ever a country has seemed on the cusp of civil war, the USA is that country. A whole lotta trouble has been boiling over since the South lost the civil war, but the regrouping of the Republicans has been going on since President Reagan, and has reached its apotheosis with Trump. It is to the Republicans, well, hardly credit but you know what I mean, that they have managed to make three natural allies at war with each other – 1) working class blacks, 2) White trash trailer park below the poverty line Southerners, and 3) Labor Unions. It is hard to disagree that Clinton’s global economy killed industry in the US and yet all the Republicans have to offer is a white supremacy, totalitarian nightmare. That white Republicans in the Southern States embrace this nightmare is beyond hocus pocus: they can’t see where their interests lie. Storming the Capitol is not storming the Bastille even while it believes it is.

2022: If Covid-19 retreats it will be an easier world, but in the US the Republicans are going to take both House and Senate at the midterms and the first thing on their plate, as Senator Cruz noted, is to impeach Biden -just what we need right now. But why? Because the Dems impeached Trump. We’ve got big trouble, right here in New York City

The Music Man: I’ve been waiting since 2020 to see Hugh Jackman in this, though I’d be pleasantly surprised if he could possibly make it into Robert Preston level performance… and I wouldn’t be shocked if it is cancelled for the third time…

Bay City Rollers: After reviewing Rollerworld (here) I have A Christmas Shang-A-Lang from 2015 and everything else is greatest hits, which means I am in search for another musician whose catalog I can work through… Ryan Adams? He released his first album, as Whiskeytown, in 1995 and has a total of 26 albums… that might be enough…? Maybe Stevie Wonder? He has 30 albums to his name, starting from 1962 when he was twelve years old. And he has that run of mid-70s you can’t wait to reach… Aimee Mann? But there isn’t enough there… The Stones? Too obvious… Miles Davis? Too difficult. Louis Armstrong? Too early, how do you review that 20s stuff?

Superbowl 2022: I say the Packers, though how do you count Tom Brady out?

Omicron: Not only did my family, visiting from Orlando and Scotland, cancel their stay here but just about every plan I’ve made for Christmas and New Year had to be cancelled… What happens when a strain deadlier than Delta and more contagious than Omicron appears?

How Dangerous Is Trump: When EXPOTUS went on television to claim that he saved the world with his Covid-19 vaccine fast track and had the booster himself, his followers booed him. Yep, if Trump crossed QANONs they would reject him. He is aware of that and has no way out.

How Bad Is Biden: he’s not terrible but he isn’t a leader (I know folks who know him and despise him, by the way), his mere presence doesn’t knock the Dem Party in lockstep behind him. People see an old man who should be in an assisted living community; for all of the loathsomeness of Trump he is still vigorous and full of life.

More Omicron: The numbers are out of this world. Yesterday alone the country had nearly 600K new cases. There are 330M people in the states, at this rate everybody in the country will have had Covid within two years. Howzaboutthatthen?
