January: although only one more than last year, they are a better construction, and January, if you include the singles is the best January I can remember: better than the January’s pre-Spotify because the importance of when you drop is much less when stuff like manufacturing and distribution isn’t part of the equation. Last January The Weeknd was # 1 and though that album was better than Trippie’s, the rest weren’t.

February: a quiet 28 days though the current # 1 looks likely to spend its year right there. Otherwise, Feb balances out Jan

March: The 100 Gecs is brilliant and the Whitney Houston, while no surprise that Gospel was in her DNA, is still a complete delight

April: Mudhoney with a great new one and Nigerian rapper and afrobeats queen Yallah Beibe with a game changer

May: I did a little weeding out (bye bye, Caroline Polachek and Fucked Up) and added a Fall with three new songs. The big add was Matt’s re-imagining of The Beatles 1965

June: a major shake up late, with both Janelle Monae, Peso Pluma and Young Thug (from jail) do very well, after not much suddenly a lot. It improves what was an iffy half year.
