Belly Cancels, Neil Young Doesn’t Care Anymore

Belly

Trump continues to divide the country and the music world!

The Weeknd and Belly were scheduled to perform on Wednesday episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, but Belly decided to cancel because the Republican candidate was also set to appear in this same episode.

‘I feel like the way I was raised was to be able to see through all the titles in this world – from religion to race,’ said Belly in a statement to AP. ‘I just didn’t want to feel like I was a part of a celebration for somebody who has beliefs that majority of us don’t agree with. ‘

And how couldn’t we share this feeling after the obscene campaign led by Trump?

‘I’m here on a campaign of positivity and love and to contribute what I can to music,’ he continued. ‘I create songs people go to sleep and wake up to, songs that they fall in love to. For me, being Muslim and being somebody that appreciates my access here in America, I love the fact that I’m able to be here. To play my part in this business is a privilege and a beautiful thing. The fact that I could lose that ability through the actions of someone such as Donald Trump isn’t right to me. At all.’

So no ‘Might Not’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, but meanwhile there is another surprise coming from another very famous musician. Neil Young, who is obviously a Bernie supporter, has approved Donald Trump’s use of his music on the campaign trial. What? Trump has been using ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ at his rally, and you would expect Neil Young to be pissed off. Instead he made this statement according to the Guardian: ‘He actually got a license to use it. I mean, he said he did and I believe him. So I got nothing against him. You know, once the music goes out, everybody can use it for anything. But if the artist who made it is saying you never spoke to them, if that means something to you, you probably will stop playing it. And it meant something to Donald and he stopped. The fact that I said I was for Bernie Sanders and then he didn’t ask me to use Rockin’ in the Free World doesn’t mean that he can’t use it.’

I am not sure I completely understand, and wouldn’t you have expected a bit more anger from the old rocker’s part? Doesn’t Trump represent everything he is fighting against? however, in the past year, Young has been vocal about his disinterest for the complicated and corrupted US system, ‘I don’t like the current political system in the USA and some other countries. Increasingly democracy has been hijacked by corporate interests,’ he said in June 2015.

But I am confused, did Trump stop using the song because it was pissing Neil Young off or did he stop using it simply because he needed a new soundtrack for his fascist rallies? Back in June, Trump tweeted ‘‪@Neilyoung‪’s song, “Rockin’ In The Free World” was just one of 10 songs used as background music. Didn’t love it anyway.’ And this must have pissed off Young too, or is he getting too old?

We are living in a weird world, where young rappers make better moves than social justice icons.
