Be Here Now: New Albums 1-11-19 – 1-17-19 Reviewed

Still on a go slow, January 21st will see things kicking in nicely:

Tomb – Angelo De Augustine – LA one man band has a giant leap forward on this quiet heartbreaker of an album that dances around self-destruction and love as immolation, but ends up with a low key, very melodic string of great songs that have a steadier center of gravity than you notice at first, as they work their way of free of self pity, “for the first time someone else loved me,” Angelo claims, before heading to the hideout of the title track – ALBUM OF THE WEEK – B+

Love Train 2 – Asiahn – Straight outta Compton, the soundtrack not the district, Asiahn uses hip hop production skills to perform chill bangerz that echoe the 90s as she finds true love – B

TDT – Big K.R.I.T. – Late last year, the Mississippi rocker who remembers both Motown and  early 00s Southern hip hop,  released  three EPs. Thrice X, Double Down, and Trifecta . Here he compiles em and they sound, if anything, better. Try “Learned From Texas” – B+

Bawskee 2 – Comethazine – Part two of the mixtape, more high energy life of a gangster raps – B

Resurrecting – EP – Elevation Worship – Five versions of the same shitty song – MUST TO AVOID – C-

we – gnash – Catchy bedsit pop with minimal multitracking so here songs instrumentation is loud and clear, like the way “imagine if” moves from bass to piano – B-

Magnolia – Randy Houser – Strong voiced, mainstream country with a quietness that seems to belie his voice and that he keeps under control whether the song is loud or soft –  B-

Twenty – Taking Back Sunday – For their 20th anniversary, with songs from emo’s greatest band every album and two newbies – B+

The Turn Up Godz Tour – Waka Flocka Flame – A stop gap before Flockaveli 2, this isn’t a live album but an odds and sods and newbies with tons of featured artists (yes, that’s Gucci Mane)  remixes before Waka and DJ Whoo Kid go on tour together. I’ve never much liked Waka but I have been wrong before, and this is all fun rockers all the time. The best non musical moment: Waka explaining  to Howard Stern how white bitches like to scream “fuck me, n_” in bed – B

Conn3ct3d – Wifisfuneral, Robb Bank$ – Alright as it mixes fast and slow and when the Florida dup are in the mood, smart flows. But a little boring – C+
