With Perpetual Rewind, Band of Jays continue to lean into the strengths that have defined its sound: polished power-pop, infectious melodies, and an appreciation for classic songwriting. The album doesn’t try to reinvent the genre but instead focuses on delivering ten well-crafted songs built on strong hooks and heartfelt performances.
From the warm opening of “Before She Goes To Bed” through standout moments like “Every Little Thing,” “If We Never Losed Ya,” and “That Week In Mexico,” the record maintains a consistent melodic charm. Tracks such as “Still Moments” provide a quieter contrast, while “Triangle Eyeball” adds a bit of personality and unpredictability before the reflective closer, “Without You,” brings the album to a satisfying finish.
Julian Volpe’s production remains one of the project’s biggest strengths. The arrangements are clean, the harmonies are rich, and every instrument has its place without feeling overproduced. It’s clear that a great deal of care went into every aspect of the recording. That said, Perpetual Rewind also suggests there’s still room for Band of Jays to grow. While the songwriting is consistently enjoyable, a few songs stay comfortably within the band’s established formula. Taking more creative risks—whether through bolder arrangements, greater dynamic shifts, or more adventurous lyrical themes—could elevate future releases from solid power-pop records to truly memorable ones.
Even so, Perpetual Rewind is an enjoyable listen that showcases a band with a firm grasp of melody and musicianship. It may not be a breakthrough album, but it’s another confident step forward and an encouraging sign that Band of Jays’ best work could still be ahead.
