At The Time The World Is Collapsing, Watch ‘Awake’, John Aulabaugh’s New Video

John Aulabaugh

As I am anxiously watching the results of the presidential elections unfold on TV, the internet and every news outlet I can find, I feel it is the most stressing night ever. And as I am watching the US map getting redder and redder by the minute, it may be time for some music, reflecting all the rage I feel inside. How did we get there? How did we manage to put ourselves in the position of electing a narcissistic racist con artist?

At 52, John Aulabaugh, who hadn’t played guitar since he was 27, suddenly started writing songs and released his first critically acclaimed album ‘Of Sins Present and Past’ last year. He is now about to release a second album but he appropriately dropped a video for a song featured on his last album, just in time for election days

John, who looks (and sounds) a bit like a younger Eric Clapton in this video for the song ‘Awake’, is screaming his rage with poignancy over atmospheric and classic reverb guitars, while his house is on fire,…did he predict tonight’s results?

The song is described as ‘A call to action for peace, justice and demilitarization of our civil servants’ while we watch footage of police violence and social injustice… ‘It is ours to insist on change and temperament – we must not leave our brothers to fight the fight themselves’.

I just want to help restore some sanity,’ explained Aulabaugh to Glide magazine. ‘I live in Central Illinois – the reddest part of a very blue state. I drive by Confederate flags and houses with spray-painted ‘TRUMP’ tags and swastika left by their middle-aged owners. I even burned a poster of myself at 15 to symbolize the loss of innocence. We were the generation everyone was counting on, and we became complacent.  As a middle-aged white guy, this is a call to my contemporaries to live by the example set by Martin Luther King.’

The songs, as many other tracks of the album was recorded with the help of some of John’s friends and musical heroes, such as Norah Jones’ guitarist, and members of Pearl Jam, Wilco and Foo Fighters.

‘It’s not too late’, he screams with passion and conviction while Donald Trump makes a cameo in the video. However, CNN tells me it is too late for now,… I am afraid it is too late, but thanks to people like John Aulabaugh who still believes in Martin Luther King’s message, not all hope is dead.
