A Few Photos Of Quentin Tarantino And Brad Pitt On The Set Of ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

Quentin Tarantino directing

Last night, Quentin Tarantino had shut down a portion of Hollywood Boulevard to shoot a scene of his upcoming movie ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’. I got the chance to be there and took a few pics, when Quentin Tarantino was arriving at the scene in a large black SUV, and waving a few times at the crowd packed on the sidewalk. People were screaming at him probably asking for autographs, but he smiled at us and said ‘I am working!’

Hollywood Boulevard has been modified to look a bit more vintage than usual, as the film crew has remodeled many store windows between Cherokee and Las Palmas, using old books, clothes, posters and marquees, transforming the Boulevard into a sixties backdrop.

Of course, last night the main attraction was Brad Pitt, filming a scene at the wheel of a vintage sky-blue Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. We got to see him racing a few blocks on Hollywood boulevard, even passing a bus at high speed… and we counted at least 50 beautiful ’60s cars cruising the boulevard for the scene. Brad Pitt redid the scene a few times, and each time, they were blasting Joe Cocker’s ‘The Letter’… I have no idea if the song will be part of the soundtrack or if Tarantino was doing this just to put his actors in the mood, but since Cocker recorded the song in 1970, and the movie is taking place during the summer of 1969, we can suppose it is a strong possibility. We all know that music is a very important element in Tarantino’s movies.

‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ follows Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), a TV actor who has some difficulties to transition to movies in 1969. He and his stunt double and close friend, Cliff Booth (played by Brad Pitt) try to make a name for themselves in the movie industry in 1969, during the infamous summer, during which Charles Manson and his family terrorized Los Angeles. Rick Dalton happens to be the neighbor of Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie). The movie has an all-star cast, which also features Burt Reynolds as George Spahn (who ‘rented’ his ranch to Manson and his female followers), Dakota Fanning as a member of the Manson family, Al Pacino as Rick Dalton’s agent, and many other famous actors such as Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, James Marsden, Emile Hirsch, Luke Perry…

The film will be released next year during the summer of 2019 (July 26th is already announced), although the date was bumped a bit for not exactly coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the real events.

This sounds like an exciting subject for Tarantino, filled with Hollywood-history details, although I am not sure how much liberty he will be taking with reality, knowing that his movie ‘Inglourious Basterds’, for example, was a sort of alternative reality! But it will be 100% Tarantino, for sure.

All the pics are here.
