10 Songs: Wednesday, October 13th, 2015

1 – Anyone Who Had A Heart – Cilla Black – The late lamented singer might not have mattered here, but this high drama take on the Bacharach-David song has its own nasally achievement on the bridge, its Englishness is on its sleeve: a clipped intensity that works on its own rulebook – A

2 – N.M.S.S. – Elvis Depressedly – rock nyc has been giving this guy props for years now and this catchy yet aobtuse counter. Clockwise pop song is a good reason why – A-

3 – Another Star – Stevie Wonder – Tonight!!! And I’ve got a great seat for once – A

4 – Barrier Reef Demo – Old 97’s – The serial lady killer takes it very slow on this acoustic early take – A-

5 – Good for You – Selena Gomez And A$AP Rocky – This has improved with age though I am not still not crazy over Rocky’s rap – B

6 – Baby’s Got A Brand New hairdo – Elvis Costello – The flip side of “don’t let me Be Misunderstood” if memory serves, reminds me of a girl so completely that I felt a rush of nostalgia when I just heard it while searching for Costello songs you don’t know – A

7 – Nocturnal – Disclosure, The Weeknd – Not convinced, though I am considering catching em at MSG a week on Saturday – C+

8 – Compound Fracture – My Morning Jacket – Giorgio Moroder remix, sounds like a meal ticket to me but not bad – B+

9 – Compound Fracture – My Morning Jacket – Actually, I like the original as well – B+

10 – Miss You – The Rolling Stones – This song launched a 1000 bands and still does – A+
