10 Songs: Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

f80e7592-640x640

1 – Summer Sixteen – Drake – I prefer this to “Hotline Bling” -I like Drake when he is angry, here he is pissed at POTUS for preferring Kendrick, Meek Mill for being a punk, and anybody who doubts that Canada is the last frontier of rap. “Bulletproof” rap, slapdown after slapdown, dishing and swishing – B+

2 – Beauty School Dropout – Boyz II Men – The greatest moments from the Grease show, finds the Boys taking the terrific track made famous by a teen heartthrob into three part harmony  heaven – A-

3 – Same Ol’ Mistakes – Rihanna – This is the winner off her new one, a broody, beautiful, remake of Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” – A-

4 – New Person, Same Ol’ Mistakes – Tame Impala – I missed this first time around, that’s a terrific bass hook – A

5 – Where The Light Gets In – Primal Scream – Sky Ferreira only adds to this, the catchiest song the band have done in years and years, a synthy electronica pop rock song – A

6 – Positively Van Gogh – Bob Dylan – ’65 demo, very folkie pre-gone electric. Wonder who the kook was? Wonder why he did release it, comparing a girl to a painting aint a bad idea at all  – A

7 – Wreck On The Highway Live In Pittsburgh – Bruce Springsteen And The E STreet Band – The first time he performed this funeral beauty finishing end theme of the winter of 16 on the ongoing tour – A

8 – We Go Together – Julianne Hough and Cast – Chang chang – B-

9 – After The Fire Is Gone (with Lee Ann Womack) – Buddy Miller – Not bad at all as infidelity songs go – B

10 – Kiss It Better – Rihanna – Great synth pop track – B+
