10 Songs: Saturday, October 3rd, 2015

i2769

1 – I Touch Myself – Divinyls – Not only was their name the best pun in the business, their one smash hit was so good with a chorus that sounds like a deep liquidy dip and bubble, that it pulled the album with it, till the great  Chrissy Amphlett translated it to the career she more than deserved.

2 – Kiss Me – Sixpence None The Richer – The great Leigh Nash’s hit stays sweet and smart – B+

3 – Tim McGraw – Taylor Swift – First album, three great songs, this is one of them – A

4 – Fuck It’s Cold – Hillary Bratton – Not bad torch burn break up song as in “…not as cold as the night you left me.” – B+

5 –  The Great Forever – Janet Jackson – Apparently she has found God. I guess that’s why there are no nipples allowed. This is is a boring plod – C

6 – Brought To The Water – Deafheaven – There are a million core bands out there and I feel as though I’ve reviewed them all, but these guys have a symphonic melodic backing track that puts the vocals in shock relief and it works for me – B+

7 – Never Let You Go – Rudimental – I like Vance Foy about as much as you do, but the hook woirks for me so… – B

8 – In My Room – The Beach Boys – Privacy and teen angst, with harmonies to bring you down to a quiet meditation – A+

9 – Little Deuce Coupe – The Beach Boys – “I ain’t braggin’ babe so don’t put me down…”, when I was a kid I had no idea what they were talking about – A+

10 – Understand – Chad Valley – In theory I can’t take this guy, in practis, great use of autotune – B-
