10 Songs: Saturday June 18th, 2016

maxresdefault

1 – Gumboots – Paul Simon – This is the most perfect piece of rock fusion ever, completely in place in the midst of New York, a breakdown in a taxi, a messy romance and an end to the story with the sound of Soweto in the background – A+

2 – Wona – Mumford And Sons- No, obviously it isn’t the equal of “Gumboots”, lyrically it isn’t sharp enough, and the two sides are not as entwined (they seem to take it n turns), but it is a magnificent beast and one of the best songs of the year – A

3 –  Goodbye Angels – Red Hot Chili Peppers – I am really bored with this band’s sound, it all sounds the same – C

4 – Nosebleed – Fawnn – This seems a bit average till they reach the bridge, a beautiful soaring thing that transports the entire track – B+

5 – Livin’ In The Country – Mainstream classic rock Americana with that annoying voice on top – C+

6 – What Blue – The Tragically Hip – Their best song on the album is a ringing alt rock track with a sweet ring to the guitars – B+

7 – Inspire The Empathetic – Bassnectar – A stoned giggly out that comes together a cappela before drawing to a close, best song on a deeply disappointing album – B+

8 – Say Yes – Big Deal – Nice reverberating sound, loud and crashing for indie pop – B

9 – Song For Judee – case/lang/veirs – Terrible song, well meaning in the lamest way imaginable – C-

10 – Dyin’ Elizabeth Cook – Country blues groove by the numbers – C
