10 Songs: Saturday, December 5th, 2015

ec3078bb1bdaf2b7179e1795cb308319

1 – Bang Bang (featuring Pusha T) – Sheek Louch – Inspired use of “Chain Gang” track, hooks you into the beat and two of the most vicious rappers in the game pay it forward – B+

2 – One Of Them – G-Easy, Big Sean – Inviting Big Sean on your joint isn’t confidence, it is is hubris – C+

3 – Mighty Like A Rose – Them – How I ever missed this song, I don’t know. A flat out masterpiece – A+

4 – One Of Us – Rick Ross, Nas – Half a man, half amazin, very dramatic – B

5 – Fun (featuring Tove Lo) – Coldplay – The maybe second best song on a terrific album, Tove Lo adds some background harmonies but not so you’d notice to a song that needs little. It is generic Coldplay but on a great type of Coldplay – A-

6 – CONFUSED! – Kid Cudi – This is better than mainstream rock because Kid has a better singing voice than all those Chris Cornell wannabes, the song itself isn’t bad but isn’t great. The chorus is hooky – B

7 – Birthday Card – Marcus Miller, Chet Faker – Great rhythm, soulful singing, takes a little while to get going

8 – Window – Sally Sparrow And The Old 41 – Synth mood pop like post-punk but better than that  – B

9 – Gerua – Pritam – Uses modern tracking on old time Bollywood ballad, my problem is exactly what yours is: the vocals  – B

10 – Wavybone (Featuring A$AP Rocky, Juicy J) – Pimp C – A$AP is pretty good, and the concept has no reason to work but damned if the raps aren’t good enough to caryy the cut and paste. – B+
