Whitney Houston Takes Over Twitter: Life Is Short, Enjoy It While You Can
As I’m trying to find a subject to write about, everybody and every news outlet is talking about Whitney Houston,… it is difficult to ignore, it’s the news eating all the other news, and nobody wants to believe it. This is the strangest thing with death, we are all going to die, we know it, but we don’t want to believe it when it happens around us, it is surreal. Especially when it happens to a public figure, part of our collective memory, death becomes a collective delusion, and we are all in denial.
My Twitter feed is just a long list of RIP Whitney, an outpouring of loving condolences, but who honestly was still thinking about her these days? And suddenly she is the greatest singer of all times,… Tony Bennett, you already said this when Amy Winehouse died!
On CNN, Dr. Drew is giving the same old talk about addiction, then Simon Cowell is talking about the pressure of this business and its devastative consequences,… what the fuck is he talking about? Isn’t this arrogant character a big part of that pressure he is pointing to with his stupid American-Idol-X Factor shows? I hate him.
I have never really liked Whitney Houston’s music, but she was the queen of pop for a long time, won 415 Awards, 2 Emmys, 6 Grammys, 22 American Music Awards, 30 Billboard Awards and sold 300,000,000 Albums! That is truly something you can’t ignore.
She was scheduled to open the pre-Grammy party of producer Clive Davis, the eve of the 54th Grammy ceremony, and, despite the sad news, the party went on at the Beverly Hilton where Houston was found dead earlier, people were saying the body was even still there… pretty incredible.
The cause of death is still unknown at this time, but TMZ is reporting that she was found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room, and that Dionne Warwick and Cissy Houston had spoken to her by phone, respectively a few hours and 25-30 minutes before she died but hadn’t noticed anything unusual. However, she reportedly had partied heavily with a group of friends at this same hotel the night before.
The LATimes even says that she appeared ‘disheveled in mismatched clothes and hair that was dripping wet with either sweat or water’ during a rehearsal on Thursday at the Hilton, and ‘displayed erratic behavior throughout the afternoon’. Oh and there is a video somewhere of her last performance in duet with R&B singer Kelly Price at the Hollywood nightclub Tru, during a pre-Grammy party that same evening.
Fans are gonna gather at the Hotel and on her Hollywood boulevard star, she is gonna sell a few other millions of records, she will be in a posthumous movie called ‘Sparkle’, and the Grammy Awards are gonna be very sad. Life is short, we just have to enjoy it.
