Taylor Swift In Yet Another Les Mis Revival
As Iman reported earlier, CBS is reporting that Taylor Swift, the pop darling of the new generation, has been offered the role of Eponine in an upcoming film version of musical ‘Les Miserables’. She was in competition with a few other beauties like Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood.
First of all, before getting to Swift, do we really need another version of Les Miserables?! How many times can you reinvent Victor Hugo’s classic, with music or no music? The famous novel has already been adapted, I kid you not, 52 times since 1907, for the stage, the big screen and the small one, and in all kinds of languages. Unbelievable, I wonder what Hollywood will do without XIX century authors.
And why picking Taylor Swift? Since it is probably not her role in 'Valentine’s Day' that got her this offer, I guess Swift was chosen because she can sing better than Scarlett Johansson, although some people say she can’t really sing live.
What is certain is that she certainly does not have the voice for the role’s strong tone, which is another story than her cute pop-country songs.
Eponine’s role is the tragic one,the girl with a terrible life and a bad father who falls in love with the wrong guy and dies for him, it may starts like one of Swift’s song, but definitively doesn’t end like one. I think Swift will have a hard time looking like a convincing Eponine.
Seeing the rest of the cast, which is an all-star one, with Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Sasha Baron Cohen as Thenardier, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier, Swift was without any doubt cast for her stardom, but she now has to choose which career she wants to pursue.
