the greatest concert of their life
They have the ability to impart absolute conviction to the same songs for decades on end.
Don’t play Vs, play the vastly superior Vitalogy.
I can not even
The band decided to “take a stand against prejudice” by canceling the show.
“That was the greatest thing ever.”
Corduroy – Pearl Jam – At the height of their Pearljamness, they sold a million copies of Vitology in a week while still claiming that they were some form of opposition. It was a tough thing, saying a loud nolle prosequi with the world at their feet and fortunately for Vedder’s mental well being it didn’t last long.. but this is what it sounded like – A
I don’t know how you save the world, I agree with the Tao, things happen naturally and are not pushed but absorbed and certainly not pushed from up on high at rock concerts. That’s not how it is done.
Mind Your manners – Pearl Jam – The rowdiest I’ve ever seen a concert was these guys at MSG a long time ago, I thought the floorboards were gonna collapse from the fans pounding their feet. They didn’t have this song then, but if they had it would have fit right in – A
And his train of thought is totally contradictory, my fans are gone but ‘My position as an artist has basically not changed in a world’? Well, if you don’t have fans anymore… But that wasn’t it, Billy visited the Howard Stern show and basically dissed a few of his peers
“I lied to myself and others, and believing those lies, I told myself consistently that whatever was going on with me … I could fix it on my own. I convinced myself that it was normal. I am a deeply flawed and mentally ill person who made some terrible choices, causing so much emotional and financial damage to others. But I believe I have much to offer my community.’
On the third hand, Olivia Vedder must be, what 8 years old now, so I am show she has been freezing it out like crazy though at eight years old her dad is probably still a god like figure. “Daughter” was never a favorite and I see zero reason to change my mind, so there.
When you love somebody you feel them differently, they inspire you elsewhere and differently. It is as if you see inside them. In music, when you feel it in a certain way, it becomes divine, the person you see is not the person they were. And then when you fall out of love, they fall to earth and become something else
Prism sold more than 2 thru 9 combined and I guess that means sales are still in free fall because it’s not as though Prism sold a million or even half a million units.
woohooo, my fave albums of last week are at # 1 and # 3!!! I’d like to thank the little people. But before we get too excited about itm add both albums sales together and you get… 225K. Hmmm
The CMJ Festival came about as close to taking over the city as humanly possible, Saturday afternoon on Ludlow Street you could wander from one gig to another all day long. It is one of my favorite times of the year -it’s like Christmas Eve
In The City – Caveman – Haunted mood indie with a baritone lead singer and fairly good songs, they sound like an early version of the National and should do well – B
I am sure I’m not alone in adoring John Newman, just a great disco guy, a grand dance House singer player, more pure talent than Avicii can dream of. Absolutely deserves a # 1 and the only question is will the US fall in line?
if either Pearl Jam or I had the date circled on our calenders it was probably me. A sprite, slim, no nonsense 150 minute set by the grunge stalwarts was frill less though not thrill less.
Every Single Night – Fiona Apple – This is the other half of Fiona. Fiona as nursery rhyme singer, skipping merrily down the path of weirdness before losing it again – A
Goodbye Don’t Mean I’m Gone – Carole King – Off her Tapestry album follow up, Carole took to the mountains in California and tended to her daughter. But she was still a round – A
Heartbreaker – Justin Bieber – Man, this guy got sucky. I was never a huge fan but he was always good for a coupla good tracks a year; how could this be any more generic – C-
Early Days – Paul McCartney – The strange thing about this terrific song is how old Paul sounds, he sounds every inch his 70 plus years and the effect, as he reaches for a note out of his range, is less elegiac and more wearied – A
New – Paul McCartney – His best album since Run Devil Run is also his oldest sounding to date, he almost croaks “Early Days”, and with a new generation of modern producers behind him, it sounds pretty good as well – A
The thrill here is Linda Thompson’s new album, except for that song earlier this year “Never A Bride” and it was a killer, we haven’t heard anything new in years. Maybe we will get a tour out of it!!!
The entire CMJ Festival, from October 15th – Octoebr 19th, is gonna be fun as always and the line up is dishy with even rumors of a secret Arcade Fire gig in Brooklyn. But for me, the afternoon KEXP radio shows are the keepers. Tell me a betetr way to spend your afternoon than with Au Revoir, Simone or Eleanor Friedberger?
The writer above is Ryan Leas and with all due respect, and who wants to pick on some scribe trying to get paid by word and running em up, but damn, could he be a bigger blowhard?
Pearl Jam have been well loved and have certainly had their moments, and as far as mainstream rock bands are concerned you can out every Linkin Park on the planet on one side, and they wouldn’t be as good as Pearl Jam, but still, they’re dodgy and half hearted, on record any way
