Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 – A$AP Rocky – This sounds so much like Rocky it should be patented and he rhymes and vernacular are so wild you absolutely need an annotated website to figure out what the hell they’re talking about, “Auntie sayin’ turn it down, or she finna call the cops, ee be plottin’ on the ops, she the one who got the drop, just a free, quick fix, to the A and it’s okay, they gon’ take me back to my old ways…” Want me to annote it for ya? Or is it enough that it sounds like it sounds cool? – A-

Heartbeat Song – Kelly Clarkson – If you think Swift hasn’t infected country, why does this sound like a Speak Now outtake? In a good way – B+

Mother Maples – Chadwick Stokes – Dispatch lead singer goes solo, for our sins – C

A Beginning Song – The Decemberists – Thank God they are playing Governors Ball, so I don’t even have to consider checking em out at the Beacon – C

Teach Me (feat Kiesza) – Joey Bada$$ – Catchy without being particularly good – C

Falling Short – Lapsley – Boring, typical electronic pop via the UK where they manufacture by the boatload or import from Scandinavia and mostly both – C

Cold As It Is – The Lone Below – They were pretty good on stage but this indie folkie rocker Americana stuff with a taste of rockabilly isn’t happening – C+

Homegrown – Zac Brown Band – Honestly? I’ve heard worse – B-
