SAMM HENSHAW RELEASES NEW SINGLE “DOUBT” FT. WRETCH 32
BRAND NEW SONG FEATURED ON APPLE MUSIC BEATS 1 THIS MORNING
ACCLAIMED UK STAR SHARES LIVELY
NEW ANIMATED VIDEO
Today, acclaimed UK singer/songwriter Samm Henshaw releases his soul-searching new single “Doubt (featuring Wretch 32)”. Get it HERE! The brand-new track was featured on Beats 1 on Apple Music today, hosted by noted radio presenter Julie Adenuga.
The new track is another slice-of-life confessional by the artist boosted by angelic handclaps and chorus, but also made devilishly current by Henshaw’s deliciously skewed lyrical observations. British hip-hop artist Wretch 32 also contributes his expert wordplay over the crisp beats, complementing Samm’s soulful musings. Henshaw also shares an irresistible new animated video for “Doubt,” created by acclaimed UK animator Mason London (Oscar Worldpeace, Dreamwife). Watch HERE! The inventive clip, set in Henshaw’s untidy flat, brings the song’s playful woe-is-me fugue to life (‘faith won’t pay the bills but doubt won’t save us all..’, laments Samm), complete with dancing overdue bills, beer cans labelled ‘Doubt Premium,’ and soap bars escaping the dishes in the sink by suntanning themselves. Wretch 32 adds his frolicsome bars that further expound on the song’s wry takeaways on regret: ‘I come from Tottenham so I could have been Adele..’
“Doubt” is a fitting follow-up to Samm’s previous single “Broke,” which scored with fans and critics and added to his growing canon of songs that cheekily captures the modern plight. That timeless and funky blues makeover notched 1.3 million streams and was also accompanied by a clever lyric video. Samm’s prior track “How Does It Feel” was released in early summer to universal acclaim, with The Evening Standard hailing the talented artist as a ‘soul revivalist’ with a deft touch for ‘tipping his hat to the present day.’ PopMatters has praised him for ‘incorporating a pop sensibility that is likely to see his star continues to rise…’ His steady ascent has been chronicled by The Guardian and The Independent, with Samm also being cited as One To Watch by Spotify, Teen Vogue, Google, GQ, and others.
Born in London, Samm was raised by Nigerian parents, honing his love for Gospel and American soul in a church pastored by his father. With his 2016 breakout debut ‘The Sound Experiment EP’ and its follow up ‘The Sound Experiment 2, he’s established himself as an inspiring new channeler of soul, coalescing his signature sound around filaments of pop, hip hop, gospel, and R&B. Hand-picked by Chance the Rapper and James Bay to support their live treks, he’s also spent the past 2 years working and touring with the likes of Pharrell, Rag’n’Bone Man and Maverick Sabre before hitting the U.S. at the beginning of the summer for well-received showcases kicking off his stateside debut.
