J. Cole  isn’t seen as the great and very popular rapper he so clearly is, with his first five albums all entering the charts at # 1 and going platinum. At first a young, girl crazy go getter, he has become steadily more politically committed and deeply involved in the drama of family and community. The man from “Work Out” has developed and improved. At the moment  Cole is simply one of the best around without all the drama that surrounds rap and the Monday show at the Arena at Madison Square Garden in support of his excellent KOD is a biggie.

Monday – Noah Cyrus – Irving Plaza – When I saw Noah  opening for Katy Perry last year she was excellent and though her new EP Good Cry wasn’t great  it does have the excellent “Where Have You Been”

Monday – Chromeo – Steven A. Clark – Brooklyn Steel – Pretty good dance band.

Monday – Meg Myers – Music Hall of Williamsburg

Tuesday – Gaz Coombes  Mercury Lounge

Tuesday – Blitzen Trapper Furr 10th Anniversary Tour – Music Hall of Williamsburg

Tuesday – Bruno Mars: 24K Magic World Tour – Prudential Center – I caught this tour last year when it hit MSG and was gonna go again till Cardi B cancelled, it is the one man jukebox’s worst tour yet and still pretty good.

Tuesday – Danity Kane DK3 with Dawn & Dumblonde – The Paramount

Tuesday – Jesse Malin October Residency with Twin Guns, Chillemi –  Coney Island Baby – Maybe my dislike for Jesse is irrational, after all D Generation were a good band…

Tuesday – Screaming Headless Torsos – Iridium

Tuesday –  Simple Minds: Walk Between Worlds Tour – Beacon Theatre – The last album was a dog but the one before it was amongst their best.

Wednesday – Marcia Ball At The Loft – I saw her maybe 20 years ago opening for Jerry Lee Lewis and not making an ass of herself.

Wednesday – Willie Nile – City Winery

Wednesday – 88rising: 88 Degrees & Rising Tour – The Rooftop at Pier 17

Wednesday , Thursday –  Christina Aguilera: The Liberation Tour – Radio City Music Hall – She’s still got that voice.

Thursday, Friday  – Bruno Mars: 24K Magic World Tour – Barclay Center – If you decide to go,  go here because the great Ella Mae is opening.

Thursday – The King Romeo Santos – Prudential Center

Thursday – Sob X Rbe with Quando Rondo – SOBs

Friday – Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators – The Rooftop At Pier 17

Friday, Saturday – Leon Bridges: Good Thing Tour – Radio City Music Hall – Big time soul man, “Beyond” is a great song.

Friday – Tedeschi Trucks Band – Beacon Theatre – One day they may own the Allman Brothers’ throne, right now they are pretenders but good ones.

Friday – Thrice – The Bronx, Teenage Wrist – PlayStation Theater

Saturday – Pink Martini – Sympathique 20th Anniversary Tour –  The Rooftop at Pier 17

Saturday – BTS WORLD TOUR ‘LOVE YOURSELF’ – Citi Field, Flushing, NY – Biggest K-pop boy band ever

Saturday, Sunday  – Eric Clapton – Madison Square Garden – How can we miss him if he won’t go away, welcome to the longest farewell!

Saturday – Maroon 5: Red Pill Blues Tour 2018 – Prudential Center – That Cardi B song has been killing the charts for months and finally hit # 1, which must please the boys no end.

Saturday – Liz Phair, Speedy Ortiz – Brooklyn Steel – This is Liz’s “Girly Sound” show

Sunday – Lupe Fiasco – Sony Hall – The new one is a lot of fun

Sunday – Loudon Wainwright: Album Release For ‘Years In The Making’ – City Winery
