Kenny Rogers: He Knew When To Fold Em, Dead At 81

A coupla years ago I had front row seats to see the Gambler himself at the Beacon Theatre and so what did he do? He cancelled the concert and retired, and now we see it wasn’t hubris but serious illness: Kenny Rogers died Friday night at the age of 81…

Many songs to choose from, and certainly “Islands In The Stream” will remain for a long, long time.  But may I recommend the devastating and way too on the nose “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town”  performed with First Edition (his second band if memory serves)  -the devastating story of a soldier returned from the Vietnam paralyzed from the waist down watching as his wife dresses for a night on the town with another man.
