We could say that the Kardashian/West are like our modern Marie-Antoinette/Louis the XVI with social media. They are either so disconnected from people’s reality that they ignore shame when bragging about their eccentric and frivolous life on Twitter, or… they know how people are currently struggling but they have no shame bragging about their eccentric and frivolous life on Twitter. If it is the case, they are simply disgusting.

After sharing photos of her $1M surprise birthday getaway to a private island on Twitter, Kim Kardashian was heavily criticized. Who cares if all the precautions had been taken to assure the safety of all her guests, posting photos of your perfect tropical birthday in the middle of a pandemic, at a time when most people struggle with money, have lost their jobs, and often do not have the means to protect themselves against a deadly virus, is simply obnoxious. You have money to spend? Fine, have your private island party but be quiet about it, what is exactly accomplished there?

However, Kim Kardashian is never going to be quiet about anything, mostly because a large majority of her 67 M followers continue to worship each one of her moves. Yesterday, she was once again boasting about her husband’s last gift: Kanye West bought a hologram of her late father Robert Kardashian. She posted two videos showing the hologram of her father looking like the real thing, as much as I can remember him, when he was on TV every day defending OJ Simpson, back in the ‘90s. Of course, the discourse of Robert Kardashian hologram was completely phony, self-congratulating and flattering, culminating into the narcissistic masturbatory declaration: ‘You married the most, most, most, most, most genius man in the whole world, Kanye West.’ Remember the gift came from Kanye himself.

Holograms are not new, Tupac Shakur performed with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at Coachella in 2012, Michael Jackson re-appeared in Billboard Music Awards in 2014, five years after his death, and Whitney Houston went on tour in the U.K. in March despite having been dead for 8 years. According to several sources, holograms cost between $100,000 and $400,000 and if we don’t know the exact price Kanye West paid for this one, let’s just say it was not some cheap birthday gift: It is the work of a prestigious production company named Kaleida, that posted : ‘wearekaleida, We’ve had an incredible day. It’s been amazing to see the world’s reaction to what was a very special project for us! Thanks to all but especially @kanyewest for giving us the honour of making @kimkardashianbirthday such a special day🙏💥💥🥳 #kimkardashian #kanyewest#Hologram #WeAreKaleida.’

You would not be wrong to think it was a complete waste of money to resuscitate a dead lawyer – who helped a criminal get away with murder by the way – for the pleasure of 2 extremely privileged persons. Kim Kardashian was of course very touched by the gift that she called a ‘memory that will last a lifetime.’

I wonder whether I would like to see one of my dead relatives talking to me as a hologram… I think I wouldn’t like that at all, because it’s fake because it’s an illusion and a very manipulative illusion. You have to wonder whether Kanye only did that to hear R. Kardashian flatter his son-in-law whereas they have never met in the real world?
