Redbone – Childish Gambino – Mpt my favorite rapper, er, Prince wannabe, and this is all falsetto r&b without the spark, but with an extended coda to stretch it past the five minute mark – C

Olvidame Y Pega la Vuelta – Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony – ANthony sings circles round JLo on this godawful Latin AMerican ballad – C-

Maniac – Jhene Aiko – Hooky pop rap by Drake’s young buddy -too much autotune but more than one catchy moment at a time – B-

Penthouse Floor – John Legend, Chance The Rapper – So now we know: John Legend should say yes to Chance and a resolute no to Common. This is a first rate r&b song with the always illuminating Chance on the rap and John completely impassioned – B+

Love On The Weekend – John Mayer – After years of playing with the Dead, Mayer can’t come home again and doesn’t come close on this pop move he is too old to sell – C-

Buy Back The Block – Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane – Man, this stuff is old except… it is the first rap song about real estate purchases – C

2100 – Run The Jewels, BOOTS – You know Boots from his remix of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” for “50 Shades Of Grey”, and here he joins the overrated Run The Jewels for a seriously sucky apocalypse crappola – C

No Lie – Sean Paul -Nice reggae riddim rap and hot beats (though not quite heavy enough. Terrific chorus – B

Never Give Up – Sia – Good vocal, decent pop -just never see her live. Ever – B

I Feel It Coming – The Weeknd, Daft Punk – After “Starboy” this is a little Junior Varsity, but if seen as a move by Tesfaye away from his drugs and depression modus operandi, it is an effective pop move forward – B

Comin’ Home – Trey Songz – Just keep your damn shirt on – C
