Since the separation between Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore last October, Sonic Youth’s future is uncertain, but co-founder Lee Ranaldo declared to Rolling Stone magazine that he was feeling optimistic about the future no matter what happens at this point:

‘It was a pretty good tour overall. I mean, there was a little bit of tiptoeing around and some different situations with the traveling– you know, they're not sharing a room any more or anything like that … It remains to be seen at this point what happens. I think they are certainly the last shows for a while and I guess I'd just leave it at that.’

He added there were no plans for Sonic Youth to record new material but that there were ‘tons and tons of archival projects and things like that still going on’

Meanwhile, Ranaldo has been writing his first solo album, ‘Between The Times and Tides", which should be out on March 20th on Matador, and one of the song, ‘Off the Wall’ has surfaced on YouTube.

It is quite a departure from Sonic Youth’s distorted sound; instead, the gentle upbeat pop-rock song has a catchy melody,… but curiously, after listening to it for several times, some slight Sonic Youth’s riffs magically reappear.

The album will also include many guests like Jim O’Rourke, Bob Bert, Wilco’s Nels Cline, Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley on drums, Irwin Menkin, Alan Licht on guitar, and John Medeski on keyboard
